Types & Categories of Ration Cards in India
Ration cards provide ration cards to all Indians under public distribution system, it has different types of categories, each related to a specific financial bracket, and helps in reaching the level of profit. These economic categories are decided on the basis of total household income, where there is a head in a family, and all the family members who live together, and are not part of any other family.
There are 4 types of ration cards
There are 4 types of ration cards recognized by the Government of India. In order to be easily identified, these ration cards are made in different colors, and provide different levels of profit.
1. Blue Ration Card

3. White Card or Honorary Ration Card
4. Antyodaya Anna Scheme Ration Card
Blue Color Ration Card Category
This card is issued to those families who were living life below the poverty line, this card can be colored in blue, green, or yellow color depending on state or federal area. In rural areas, the upper limit of this economic bracket is fixed at 6400 rupees per year. Whereas in the urban areas, the upper limit of Rs 11,850 per family whose total annual income falls within this limit are eligible for the blue ration card.
This card allows maximum profit, and is issued to families who do not have an LPG or gas connection, and they provide subsidized kerosene in addition to subsidized food products.
Pink Color Ration Card
This card is issued to the families whose total annual income is above the poverty line. In rural areas, the total household income is more than Rs 6400 per year and those who want to take subsidized food products are issued cards, this card appears orange in color. In urban areas, the total household income of households is 11,850 rupees per year. Ration cards are issued to them, and the color of the card is pink and also includes a picture of the head of the family.
White Color Ration Card
This card is issued to those families who are financially strong and do not need subsidized products and services. For such families, ration cards are called white or honorary cards and only used as proof of identity and residential address.
Antyodaya Anna Scheme Ration Card
This ration card is issued to the poorest families of India who have no fixed source of income. (I.e.) who have different funds coming across the year In this category, seasonal workers and laborers, the elderly and the unemployed are included. The upper limit for this economic bracket is Rs. 250 / – per month Family Income. 3 rupees per kg of rice helps to meet highly subsidized items including 35 kgs.
